Summer Storm

Published by Wingless Dreamer, Spring 2021

Like a summer storm, appearing suddenly

on the horizon, drenching our lives

in liquid sunshine anecdotes.

A force of nature regaling us with torrents

of news; a deluge of residential hall capers, an effusion

of mid-term crises, gushing plans to study abroad.

Laughter approximating a thunder clap

and a commanding presence illuminating the expanse

in constant lightning strikes from cloud to cloud

to cloud. Your countenance reflects flashes of

days gone by; bursting recollections

of refrigerator art, elementary theatre,

malodorous sports uniforms and

boisterous friend cliques. I listen breathlessly

to the downpour, in awe of this cloudburst

cultivated on my hip, roaring through

like a summer storm.
